Comporta Weather Station

Comporta Weather Station

Climate change

Terra has commissioned and is currently producing the Comporta Weather Station, which is to be located in the village of Carvalhal. It is meant to capture glimpses of regions’ flora and fauna and to study how the ecosystem is influenced and affected by the weather.

Collaborating with designers, musicians, sound-designers, poets and artists, we are interested in understanding how creative disciplines can address the issue of climate change in unexpected ways.

This project initiated has part of the World Weather Network.

The Day Opens My Eyes

Photography

In November 2022 Rafael de Oliveira did the first Terra Creative residency. He spent several days immersed in the specific ecosystem of the Comporta area, registering a kaleidoscope of images with his camera. He edited some of the images later, and left others untouched, following his own approach to this artistic discipline and his “vision of the world through photography."

Terra presented part of his work and research in an exhibition in Carvalhal entitled The Day Opens My Eyes, under the art direction of José Cabaço, which opened on 12 August 2023.

Doing Well

Design, Crafts and Women Empowerment

The exhibition, presented in an open-air space in front of the rice fields of Carvalhal, showcased 37 handmade artefacts, produced in bulrush and reed. The eight women who conceived and made these pieces had never explored this type of handcraft until now.

Each of the pieces represents a victory, an achievement, an idea of beginning. In their simplicity and uniqueness, the objects shown are as different from each other as the people who made them.

It marks also our relation with our planet and the ecosystems surrounding us.
