Music also helps us to transcend our own in-group and understand the perspectives of others who differ from us. Increased music appreciation has the potential to inspire and empower individuals independently of their background, education or age, and to weave endless interconnections in a community. Decades of research show that exposure to live music, and participation in its creation, can enhance individual and collective well-being in measurable, significant ways.
Terra is developing a series of events and workshops devoted to creating a regular music programme. Some of these activities will be connected with our educational service, some will be part of our artistic residencies or specific research projects.
These projects weave together the themes of nature, ecology, territory, creativity, innovation and community engagement, all using music as the core expressive medium.
Some of them are deeply related with the Comporta Weather Station activity, others are related with our partnership with the Centre Européen de Musique, addressing themes like Music and the Oceans, Music and Migrations and Music and Innovation, like Via Scarlatti I Music and Innovation as the Soul of Europe.
Themes related to string quartets, education, audience development, and creative residencies have been explored in partnership with Le Dimore del Quartetto. Our third European project, Merita Cubed—involving 12 countries and 17 institutions—will begin in September 2025, with its first outcomes to be released in 2026.
