
Vítor Joaquim
Based in Setúbal, Portugal, Vítor Joaquim is a versatile artist with a background in sound and film directing, holding a PhD in computer music. Since the mid-80s, he has been actively involved in music performance and contemporary dance, collaborating with renowned artists like Rui Horta and Guillermo Weickert. With a total of 17 album releases and numerous international accolades, his work has been recognized for its innovation, earning praise for albums like "Geography" and "Filament." He frequently engages in real-time electronic collaborations and live sampling, showcasing his talents at festivals and venues across Europe. He has also directed performances, curated festivals, and contributed to the academic field as a researcher in computer music at CITAR, Porto.
Throughout his career, Joaquim has forged partnerships with international artists and visual collaborators, enriching his performances with immersive experiences. His artistic vision extends to directing contemporary performances and advising on programming and curation for festivals across Europe. He founded and curated EME Festival, a platform dedicated to experimental arts and non-standard music from 2000 to 2009. He is also involved in education, teaching and coordinating sound and audiovisuals at art schools since the 90s.
